The weather in Houston is incredible right now, and there are so many ways to get out and enjoy it! If you’re looking to turn that quarantine bod into a beach bod before this summer (and improve your overall health in the process!), there’s no better way than getting outdoors.
Here are a few ways to get that winning sun tan + vitamin D + fresh air + endorphins combo:
Hit the Trails in the New Eastern Glades Park
Located in the Southeast pocket of Memorial Park is the brand new Clay Family Eastern Glades project. This space is 100 acres of reclaimed parkland that was previously inaccessible. This is a great place to jog on the new trails and enjoy the sunset views over the wetlands. A grassy central lawn provides a perfect spot for stretching, calisthenics, yoga, and bodyweight exercises.
Sunrise Yoga in Bayou Buffalo Park
Head to Bayou Buffalo Park to get your flow on at a socially-distanced yoga session in the wee hours of the morning. Yoga is the perfect way to start the day! Yoga helps to warm up your joints and muscles and sets your mind on a positive and intentional path before you spend the next 8 hours on your booty in front of the computer. Those with neck, back, hip, or knee pain will find morning yoga especially beneficial.
Take a Hike
Whether you’re looking for a nice stroll in the park or want to get in a trail running sesh, Houston has options! Hit the hiking and biking trails in Bayou Buffalo Park, or try Buffalo Bend Nature Park and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve if you want your exercise with a side of beau-ti-ful.
Hop on a Bike
Houston is stunning by bike, but if you don’t have one, don’t worry! There are now 80+ (and counting!) B-Cycle rental stations around Houston, so no matter where you are, you’re probably close to one. These bike rentals cost $3 per 30 minutes or $13 a month for an unlimited number of 60-minute rides. B-Cycle is adhering to strict disinfection schedules and encourages riders to wash their hands or wear gloves as appropriate.
